Skilled Workforce (AHEAD) Career Development

The AHEAD Program offers high school students mentorship and training through a paid summer internship in the road building and heavy construction sector. Students in grades 11 and 12 can participate in entry-level work experience in the Calgary, Edmonton Cold Lake, Bonnyville, Lethbridge or Red Deer areas. Upon successful completion, students can pursue a post secondary certification or diploma, and/or employment in the industry.

Students can explore several career pathways through this program including:

  • Computer Aided Architectural Design (CAAD)
  • Construction Surveyor
  • Engineering Technologist
  • Safety/Environmental Technologist
  • Certified trades
  • Equipment Operator
  • Labourer
  • Logistics
  • Geologist
  • Land Surveyor
  • Engineering
Please note: Recent high school graduates are eligible if they wish to follow the application process.

Schedule

January to March: Informational Workshops

April: Application and Selection Process (school-based)

May to June: Industry Interview and Selection Process, Safety Training
