To prosper, every community needs a skilled workforce. More than 200 Alberta communities have discovered how CAREERS' program can help them motivate their young people to explore local skills shortages. By recruiting home-grown apprentices and interns with roots in the community, industry gains employees that are less likely to move away from the region. In turn, these employees earn wages that are reinvested into their community.
CAREERS' long-term success depends on local stakeholders taking ownership of the local effort. We are working to design programs that will meet the specific needs of partner communities. We know that one size does NOT fit all, and we will strive to ensure that we build models of cooperatin that best reflect community needs. Our role will evolve from a hands-on approach to that of support and mentorship, engaging local volunteers in direct program delivery and other organizational roles as part of each formal community relationship.
